Compared to traditional marketing channels, digital marketing through mobile phones and tablets has an advantage due to the ability to reach consumers where they are. The instant, personalized, and continuous nature of digital marketing gain better engagement, higher conversion, and lower ad costs than channels such as television ads, and billboards (Hubspot Marketing, 2025a). Traditional marketing is limited, especially in instances of personalization for consumers based on interests, behaviors, and locations. According to Zahay (2024), digital marketing strategies are increasingly focused on creating customer value through interaction and engagement rather than simply delivering advertisements. Mobile devices make this possible because consumers are rarely without their phones, which creates an advantage for businesses who utilize opportunities to build relationships, loyalty, and brand trust.
Businesses can use digital marketing to their advantage to increase product awareness and sales. Social media platforms allow these businesses to focus on personalized advertising for the consumers who are interested in their products. Personalization and data-driven marketing help consumers respond more positively to content (Hubspot Marketing, 2025a), so by utilizing data analytics, businesses can target those consumers better based on demographic, psychographic, behavioral, and geographic data that is collected.
Mobile marketing also integrates shopping into everyday social media use. Using features in content such as in app shops, live shopping events, and clickable ads will lead consumers to the point of sale without even leaving the app they are scrolling. This strategy works so well, that 69% of marketers predicted that social commerce would overtake e-commerce by the end of 2025 (Hubspot Marketing, 2025b). Platform models, such as those used on TikTok and Instagram, create value by creating interaction between businesses and consumers and streamlining the customer purchasing process (Zahay, 2024).
“As TikTok has risen to prominence, the social media giant has shaped how brands reach potential customers. Major brands and retailers, including Amazon, Maybelline, E.l.f. Cosmetics and Gap, have harnessed the platform to engage shoppers. To attract more shoppers, the company has even taken a page from retailers like Amazon, Walmart and Target by launching its own sales events.”

The advantages of mobile marketing are vast, yet several constraints and challenges can emerge if the strategy isn’t ethical. The biggest challenge in marketing today is the lack of trust in businesses (HubSpot Marketing, 2025a), and 68% of consumers rank trustworthiness as the #1 priority when making purchases. To ensure consumers can build trustworthiness for brands, it is important to be upfront with what data is used, and how it is used. It is also important to ensure that businesses are transparent with practices and values (Hubspot Marketing, 2025b). Brands can also utilize content creators and micro influences to build trust. According to Hubspot (2024a), the most successful brands are using brand-led content to build trust and keep customers coming back.
Mobile phones and tables have become a crucial part of marketing, with many advantages over traditional marketing channels. Mobile marketing offers consumers the opportunity to participate in marketing strategies through comments, polls, reviews, and live streaming. Social media has created authentic and immediate communication, trust, and purchasing options for consumers. Although data marketing is overtaking traditional channels, the lack of trust, especially with consumer data, is a challenge. This risk can be mitigated through ethical and community-based thinking that will build stronger relationships and keep brands positively relevant.
